It's like collector's edition. :D

Black Crowntail Betta Fish (Cupang Serit Hitam)

Now I've seen a lot of black crowntail betta fish on the net via google. Everytime I searched for crowntail betta, I always ended up seeing those black crowntail bettas. But guess what, I got one too, and I'm posting it here to show them that theirs are good, and mine's better. Hope google will crawl this page fast enough to make this betta fish right here come up to the top of the search page.

Really, this betta fish here is as good as it can be. See its tail. You will see not only it forms a great shape of a crown, but also made of lots of twin points (it's those small tails that formed the whole tail as a crown. I don't know what the right word is, so I use "point"). Next I will post a crowntail betta fish that made of not only twin lines, but three lines on some roots.

Betta Fish that's called Plakat (Plakad)

Meet our new friend, Mister Plakat. As you can see, this Betta fish has different shape. Though it has halfmoon shape on its tail, but the range is rather narrow. The range of the fins is narrow too. Plakats are known to be the most fierceful fighter, and when they start to fight they will stop at nothing. This means you have to choose Plakat when you want to make your betta fish fight and put your money on it. Always put your money on strongest fish. May the best Plakat fighter wins.

But wait, this blog is not dedicated to killer fish or dead fish! No Brother, it is dedicated to ornamental betta fish. Gorgeousness, it's what it's all about. Plakat, while you know it as a strong fighter, also has beautiful side. This one, for example, is a very cute plakat. Its small white fins wiggle around rapidly as it try to float in the aquarium. And the halfmoon tail is just round and perfect. The color is what we call dice-color, makes it even more unique than other plakats.

Red Crowntail Betta Fish (Serit Merah)

It's the devil (fish) himself! This red crown tail betta fish is just splendid! Well, it's not as nasty as it looks. It has a rather calm movement. When we face him to another betta fish (in another aquarium, of course), it opens its fin and tail as wide as it can get (see the picture) and just stop moving, only to stare to its enemy. Will he win if we put him into a fight with another betta? We don't know. Curious, but we won't let the curiousity destroy our lovely fishes.

In my country, we call this crown tail betta as "Serit", meaning a comb. Yeah, when you people from the west think that its fins and tail look like a crown, we think it looks like a comb.

Yellow-tied Blue Betta Fish (Cupang Serit Biru Berdasi Kuning)

Well, what do you think? Lots of people here like this betta fish and would like to buy it for a good price. The spread of its fins and tail make him move gracefully. It grows up to 7 centimeters, and I think it has reached its maximum size. What makes this fish even more attractive is its yellow tie. The color combination is unique. Sorry about the lens flare on the picture (it's really hard to take cupang picture, because it always moves around, and not to mention it has to be inside an aquarium), the glass of the aquarium gave it away.

So, this cupang (betta fish) is one of Sinyo's favorite, and we're happy to present it to you via this blog. They can also be found in 3 feet deep water.

Siamese fighting fish are anabantoids, meaning they can breathe air from the surface of the water.

Betta Splendens should be kept in water of 24-27 degrees celcius. Any other degree will make betta fish sick, and die.

Siamese fighting fish do not like strong water currents. They will get stress if you put them in the water that has currents, especially strong ones.

Bettas have delicate tails - so ensure that no sharp decorations are in the tank.

As in their names (Fighting Fish), males must NOT be kept together - they will fight.

Bettas can grow to around 3 inches in length, and get reasonably fat. If we have a giant betta, we will post it here.

Betta Fish with Red-White Fin

This betta fish came with the bat-like-fish. For me, it's just plain cruel to buy living things and make them fight to the death, while we gain profits from it. But that's the trend in my country (Indonesia) and other South East Asia countries like Thailand, Philippine, and also China. Well, what's an opinion of one man? So I googled around to find training methods for fighting type betta fish (which is also useful for non-fighting ones, just for excercise), compiled it together, and, here you go.

1. Conditioning
Ensure that the tank or jar has sufficient room for your betta to easily turn around. Plants or objects that might interfere with this should be placed at the back or to one side of the tank in order to leave sufficient room for circling. Bettas that are in compound tanks have softer skin and their scales are not smooth enough to tolerate hard hitting from the sharp teeth of the opponent. They need to be kept individually in a jar or bottle for conditioning for about a week. Add 5 ml of Atison's Betta SPA per gallon of water in the container. This extract of wild almond leaf will make the skin and scales harder. During one week in the container, just feed them once every two days with Atison's Betta PRO. This food is preferable since the Betta will get a lower fat diet than with other foods for fish. Keep the fishes in their individual containers without seeing each other. After a week, the fishes will lose their fat, their scales will become stronger and harder and they will look shinier than before the conditioning. If there is no time to do the training or if there is a lack of opponents, the fish can be kept in the conditioning container for another 2-3 weeks without any problem. No water change is required during this conditioning, for up to a month.

2. In the morning move him to new soft water (condition new water with dry banana leaf). 15 minutes after you have moved him to his new container, put a small female into his container for a minute. The male will flare and chase female around. You should remove the female immediately if your betta fighter starts to bite her. This is to make your fighter active and fierce. Do this step again in the evening. Make sure he doesn't bite anything during training to protect his teeth for fighting!

The whole process of training will last about 6 to 7 days, depending on the fitness of the fighter. The training period should not take longer than 10 days. The longer the training period, the more boring and stressful it becomes for the fish. If there is no suitable opponent, just put the fish back to the conditioning process again. Then do the exercising process, step by step.

3. Prepare a circle tank or at least 15" high bucket with a small aquarium water pump. Put 12" water high and put a small bottle with a female into the center of the male's tank. Put your fighter into circle tank. He will swim around the female bottle to try to fight the female. Turn on the water pump to flow the water around tank. Your fighter will try to go against the water flow. Let him exercise like this for 15 minutes after feeding in the morning and evening. This will give your fighter a strong body and help him to develop good breathing techniques.

The fighter will chase the females around the container. It looks beautiful when he is chasing the females. Leave the fighter in the container for about 5 minutes or until the fighter starts to bite a female. Take him out and leave all the females in the container. Repeat this process again next morning for another 4 days.

4. Let your fighter have rest in his container. Repeat day 8 step once a day. Feed him only a little food in the evening.

5. To make a fighter more furious and aggressive is one of the most important part of this betta fish training method. If a fighter is not aggressive and furious, it will not bite hard and bites less often. Every betta has their own territory and will protect it for life. Therefore if one invades one's territory a fighting begin. I use a small healthy female put into a fighter's container. The fighter will chase the female and finally it bites the female furiously.

Normally training a betta takes two weeks - one week for conditioning, and one week to exercises. Be sure to feed your fish with proper food, and don't forget about relaxing. That way you can grow a real fighter with this simple betta fish training method!

Thanks to bettafishguide.blogspot.com for this one.

Do Betta Fish Sleep?

The answer is yes, they do. If your betta have plants or cave inside his aquarium, that's where he usually sleeps. He will act as if he's startled if you light him at night. Why night? Because it's hard to sleep for creature that don't have eyelids. Betta fish doesn't have eyelids and therefore they choose to sleep when the lights go out.

Sometimes they take naps during the day right in-between the leaves. So be sure to have leaves in your aquarium.

Betta fishes are diurnal, meaning that they are active during the light hours. When they do rest, most diurnal fishes will be very pale. Usually they rest when the light is out and the surrounding is dark.

On the contrary, nocturnal fishes will look for dark areas and often rest there, and when other fishes rest at night, they will come out and feed.

Betta Fish Lifespan

Female bettas are smaller, and duller in color. Their fins are are also considerably shorter, but they do have similar coloration patterns as the male. The female will have mild striping along the sides of her body. She grows to a maximum size of about 2 inches. Although she doesn't get the size or color, the female often live longer than the male by several months.

If you want to buy a betta fish from a store, you might need to know that usually people sell 6 months old bettas. The average betta fish lifespan is about 2 to 3 years, but sometimes these tropical fish live up to 5 years if water conditions are ideal and food is optimal. You should feed adult betta fish just once a day and for the babies twice a day. Once you've fed them don't just leave them. Spend your time for a moment to see your betta eat. A betta fish should take two to five minutes to make itself full.

The most common food for betta fish is water flea. Click here to see how to breed water flea. Betta fish prefer live food, but feeding them freeze dried food is a more convenient and affordable alternative. Never use worms caught from the garden or caught in the wild for your betta fish as they may have been subjected to pesticides.

Now here's some useful tips for you (thanks to aquariumguys.com for this tips):

Just like most fish, betta fish can go a couple days without eating, so don't worry about leaving for the weekend. But if you leave for a longer period of time, be sure to have someone feed the fish (or use a time-release food block, or automatic feeder) and clean their water (if smaller than 5 gallons it will need cleaning at least once a week).

It is good practice to skip a day of feeding once a week, as it gives the betta fish's digestive system time to recover and clean itself out.

IMPORTANT: While betta fish will stop eating dried or frozen food once full, they will continue eating as long as there is live food in their aquarium. Thus it is extremely important not to overfeed them with live food, as they will literally eat themselves to death.

If your betta fish develops a paunch, or an overpronounced belly, you may be overfeeding it. Conversely, if he appears gaunt or thin, he may have an infection or need more food.

Preparing the Tank

When filling the tank with water, you have three options.

The first option is using tap water. It is generally safe for your betta fish, but should be left standing for 24 hours in order to condition it and bring it to room temperature. If your city has especially hard water, you may want water treatment chemicals to remove chlorine and other contaminants.

The second option is using bottled water. It varies as much as tap water does, and if you choose to use it, be sure to stick to one particular brand. If you do decide to change brands, then gradually change it by adding a bit of the new water to the old water over a couple of days. Using betta conditioners is still a good idea.

The third option should be avoided: using distilled water.

You should measure the PH level of your water source, and adjust it they way betta fish prefer. Although betta fish can manage in water that is between 6.5 and 7.5, try to make it as close to neutral water as possible (7.0).

The ideal water temperature for betta is between 72 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit (that's 22-27 degrees Celcius). Betta can adapt to lower or higher temperatures as well as long as the change is gradual. One way to tell if the water is too hot or too cold is by watching the betta fish's behavior. A sluggish, listless fish is likely too cold and a hyperactive fish (unless it is feeding time) indicates water that is too hot.

Gravel and plants
Betta fish likes to rest on the leaves, while people find it more attractive when a tank or bowl is filled with gravel. So if you want to make the fish and the people more comfy, you may want to consider buying gravel and plants for aquarium. Ordinary rocks from the street will not do, I tell you. And remember, before adding the gravel to the aquarium, rinse it in a separate container, repeat changing the water out until it is clear.

Tank maintenance
If your tank is smaller than one gallon, then change 100% of the water once a day or at least 3 times a week. If you have larger tanks, do partial water changes of 25% of water a week. Be sure to siphon or vacuum your gravel when you change your water.

Last thing, the water does not need to be aerated. Why? Because the betta fish breathes at the surface of the water. Aeration and circulation may create too much flow for your betta, and they're not accustomed to having to swim very hard.

Breeding Natural Feed for Betta Splendens

Betta fish breeders usually have a problem related to the feed for the fish. They don't always have feed for their fish. Betta fish eats Daphnia (it's a planktonic crustacean a.k.a. water flea) and breeders don't always have this kind of feed. Without this water flea, little bettas couldn't stay alive long, because they can't eat silkworm or mosquito larva, yet. Sometimes we can't find water fleas in market. But let me tell you, we can find water fleas in ditches around our house.

When we look at water fleas using a microscope, we can see that its size is flat and ellips, with color that is reddish. An adult water flea is around 2 mm. It can be used for female betta fishes if you want to mate it with male ones.

Now, if we want to find water fleas, it's best to search for it before sunrise, because around that time water fleas usually gather in packs on water surface. So we can just look in the water surface - river or ditch - that is reddish. Water fleas go into the bottom of the water when the day is noon.

Water fleas feed on phytoplankton or other bacteria. Betta fishes love to eat water fleas, and for additional advantage, water fleas have a lot of nutrition and are easy to digested, making betta fish's color more bright.

You can breed water fleas sing dried chicken droppings and yeast. Here's how:

have a bucket, a drum, or pool ready. Make sure it's clean and dry.

Fill it with water, around 50-75 cm high. Count the volume.

Put in the chicken droppings wrapped with cloth. One gram of chicken dropping for one litre of water.

Put in the eggs of water fleas into the pool with 10-20 grams to 1.000 litres of water ratio.

On day four, feed them with yeast. 5 grams yeast for 1.000 litres of water.

You can take out those water fleas when you see your pool is getting full of it. Take it all out and empty your pool when 40 days have passed, and you can start the breeding over. Good luck!

Things You'll Need When Bringing Your Betta Fish Home

The best thing to do is to have a home for your betta fish ready to go before he arrives from the pet store. Siamese Fighting Fish a.k.a. Cupang might profit you economically. You don't need a lot of space to breed Betta, and actually there's no special requirement. Many people like to see and to have Betta because of its beautiful color and shape. As its name tells, if male Betta meet another male Betta, they will fight against each other until one of them lose, or die. This is one of the reasons why people like Betta Splendens. The price usually depends on the beautiness of the color and shape of its body and fins. In my country in Indonesia, the price ranged between $5-10 each, and up to $100 for Betta that's ready for competition. The cheapest one (and most likely the one that's mediocre) is $1 or so.

Anyone can breed Betta Splendens. You can even use buckets, small aquarium, or even cans. They will live normally in small room, even inside a bottle of beer (drink up the liquid first, then fill the bottle up with pure water). But please don't breed Betta Splendens while you're drunk. ;)

Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy for http://bettasplendensinfo.blogspot.com

If you require any more information or have any questions about our privacy policy, please feel free to contact us by email at m4n_1n_th3_m1rr0r@yahoo.com.

At http://bettasplendensinfo.blogspot.com, the privacy of our visitors is of extreme importance to us.
